Empty Shelf Book #2: Church Planter

Jon Acuff has this challenge going on called the Empty Shelf Challenge. It’s a great opportunity for those who want to read more books in 2014. Read here to join us on this fun challenge!

This is the second book I’ve read for the #EmptyShelf Challenge.

Below is the format he plans to use this year for each book he reads. So I am doing the same. Keep things simple…

churchplanterTitle: Church Planter: The Man, The Message, The Mission

Darrin Patrick

What’s it about: It’s a book that helps pastors discern their call to church planting as well as breaks down the theology of church planting.

Why did I read it: I recently resigned my role as a youth pastor and as I’ve been praying over next steps I’ve allowed myself to be open to all areas of ministry. You never know where God leads.

Favorite idea: This quote really sticks out to me… “Gospel-sharing and preaching that does not address the cognitive aspects of culture may tweak the emotions but may not transform the worldview of the person.” Any church that wants to impact the lives of their members, the community and world beyond will need to understand that the Gospel is holistic.
